Senate Committee on Devolution Applauds Governor Bii’s Administration For Doing This

As Eldoret town gears towards being granted city status, the Senate Committee on Devolution and Inter-Governmental Relations has lauded Governor Jonathan Bii-led administration for the infrastructural development projects that have been set on the ground.

Wajir Senator Sheikh Abbas-led Committee was particularly impressed with road network projects that have been completed within the specified period and have made it easy for the transport of goods and services within and outside the regional government.

The committee members are on an inspection tour of various projects and facilities including the Fire and Rescue section under the Department of Roads, Transport and Public Works, which are crucial for the Eldoret Municipality to be conferred city status. Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka said that the county has so far put in place structures that will make it the fifth city after Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu and Nakuru.

“As a Committee, we are particularly glad about the infrastructural projects that have been set on the ground ahead of the Municipality being conferred city status,” said Senator Onyonka.

Nominated Senator Prof. Margaret Kamar who is also a member of the Senate Committee said the county’s firefighting team continues to stand out in the North Rift and parts of Western regions respectively in quick response to emergency cases related to fire outbreaks and other rescue missions.
“I would like to comment the Uasin Gishu firefighting team for their superb job when responding to emergency cases related to fire outbreaks not only within the county but also the neighbouring counties of Nandi, Elgeyo Marakwet and even parts of Kakamega County,” said Kamar
.
The County CECM for Roads Eng. Joseph Lagat and Chief Officer Eng. Abraham Kiptalam said the department has completed the process of purchasing two water bowser trucks and is also helping in the process of coming up with a new law to help enhance the delivery of services as the town gears towards a quest to attain city status.
