Senator Margaret Kamar Responds After Governor Jackson Said he Performs Both Senatorial and Gubernatorial Duties
Uasin Gishu Senator Margaret Kamar has hit at governor Jackson Mandago for saying that he worked as governor and at the same time senator.
Through her official Facebook page Kamar said government did not perform his mandate well.
“It’s unfortunate what desperation can turn leaders into. If truly HE Mandago worked as Governor and Senator, then no wonder he didn’t perform in his duties. For a Governor to return money every year while the County is littered with incomplete projects and unpaid contractors, is a big Question,” said Uasin Gishu County senator.
Kamar wondered why under the leadership of governor Mandago contracts were terminated midstream with no satisfactory answers to the auditor general.
” The right to information is enshrined in the constitution and you can get all Uasin Gishu reports from Senate or Auditor general for free.He leaves the Health sector in an embarrassing state where we lost 500 million per year for lack of a level 5 hospital,” she added.
She noted that she highlighted the issue when she brought Senate Mashinani to Uasin Gishu.
“Most 2nd term Governors prioritised level 5 (Five) to earn 500 million per year which they used to build their level 4 (four) hospitals in every Subcounty. Was our Governor busy doing senate work from his 1st term? “she said.
Kamar reiterated that she invited Senators twice to visit health facilities by governor Mandago absconded and so did his CEC health.
“I thank the people of Ziwa, Kesses and Moiben for the most organised receptions and detailed information. All the three facilities had stalled and from public demand our visit yielded a report that resulted in the revival of Ziwa level 5 (Five) and Kesses level 4 (Four). Moiben is still stalled and the matter is in court. Did the Senator fail or the Governor,” she added.
” In response to the farmers outcry, I made it an agenda during Senate Mashinani and chaired a committee that covered Trans Nzoia, Bungoma, Kakamega, Nandi and Nyamira. Results? In 2019, a strong recommendation was made that Governors from the food growing counties to start subsidised inputs for farmers. The first 3 above have faithfully subsidised for their farmers. What happened to our Governor? On duty working as Senator? She wondered.
She says it’s the responsibility of governors are expected to listen to the Senate during the division of revenue to see and identify areas we are demanding more money for, thereafter refocus their annual plans.
” My research team attends public participation as a duty, and I have attended two. I found them misguiding so I decided to raise the issue with MCAs in my second County Assembly address. The CECs left unceremoniously without a word on the issues I highlighted,” she said.
She says the treasury has failed in timely funds transfer and we have said as much in Senate BUT, how does one explain, low consumption of what is available? Or misplaced priorities.
“Why would anybody want to buy a dilapidated National Bank of Kenya (NBK) Building for double the price? I thank the petitioners who warned me that if I failed to prosecute the petition it would be a pointer that I am part of it. Finally, they were vindicated because the value was abnormally high,” she said.
