Six Arrested in Matatu Robbery Scheme in Parklands
In a dramatic turn of events, detectives from the Operations Support Unit (OSU) have apprehended six men who were masquerading as matatu operators in Parklands, only to prey on unsuspecting passengers. The gang, notorious for robbery and kidnapping, was taken down following a tip-off from a vigilant member of the public.
The suspects were operating a matatu, registration number KAQ 654A, when they reportedly picked up a female passenger at Kempinski. After picking her up, several gang members disembarked, leaving her vulnerable. As the robbery unfolded, the woman screamed for help, which caused chaos and led to an accident on Kipande Road. This incident caught the attention of an eyewitness, who promptly reported the gang’s suspicious activities to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Upon receiving the alert, OSU detectives quickly mobilized and managed to arrest the gang members: Boniface Wachira Mwangi, Jackson Kimani Thuo, Titus Mburu Njonjo, Dennis Omondi Otieno, George Vincent Otieno, and John Waweru Njenga. The latter was found with stolen items, including five mobile phones and a tablet, and is suspected to be a receiver of the stolen goods.
Efforts are underway to locate a female accomplice who remains at large. Authorities are urging anyone who may have fallen victim to this gang’s activities to come forward and report to the DCI Headquarters Operations Directorate.
Members of the public are also encouraged to share intelligence anonymously via the Fichua Kwa DCI toll-free number at 0800 722 203. The DCI continues to emphasize the importance of community vigilance in combating crime.
