The relegation from the World Series, has led to a change in the Kenya Rugby Union board of directors as for members are co-opted.

Despite the promotion of Alice Zawadi, Nish Van Hoek, Wanjiru Wairia and Kairo Thuo to the board of directors, the union has termed it a one of the swift actions to be taken to help restore Shujaa back to glory.
The union has said that they will conduct a review of the 2022-2023 season which will help enhance Shujaa’s competitiveness in the upcoming tournament in July where they have been invited to the New York City 7s tournament.

“We are saddened by the relegation but this should be the end of our hope as there is still redemption only if we stay focused on winning the Africa Cup,” said the KRU Chairman, Alexander Mutai.

The Union has also argued hat the efforts to be put ahead for Paris 2024, will ensure the team qualifies despite the expected stiff competition from the South Africa Blitzboks.

The union also sets plans to ensure that the team participates in various Satellite Sevens Rugby Tournament world wide as this will help them stand a chance to win the challenger series to secure their spot back to the series.

The union is calling upon the government and their partners to help in funding the team as they struggle to get back to their lost glory.
“We are looking for an airline partner to facilitate travel for the Kenyan teams to their respective destinations,” said Mutai.
