Speaker Muturi Joins Christians on Palm Sunday Walk
The Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Justin Muturi this morning joined faithfuls from Anglican Church in a walk christened ‘The Palm Sunday Archbishop’s Peace Walk’.
The walk which was led by the Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Kenya, the Most Revered Dr. Jackson Ole Sapit kicked off at 8am and took participants to major government installations in the city where they stopped to say a prayer. Speaker Muturi flanked by the Clerk of the National Assembly Mr. Michael Sialai received the procession in Parliament.
The prayer event follows concerns on the rising tensions as political campaigns for the August polls continue. At Parliament, Archbishop Ole Sapit observes that the event was intended to sensitize the different government agencies charged with the administration and management of the forth coming elections on the need to promote justice and peace while doing everything possible to ensure the forthcoming elections are free and fair.
“It was important that we visit each of the installations that we visited for each of them needs prayers to deliver to us justice and to deliver to us peace even as we approach the electioneering period”, noted Archbishop Ole Sapit.
On his part, Speaker Muturi lauded the Anglican Church for organizing the walk which kicked off at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the Judiciary, the Office of the President and before finally moving to Parliament. He noted that it was important for the country to be in the mood of prayer, even as the electorate seek God’s guidance on the rights leaders they should elect to office.
At the National Assembly, Rev. Dr. Linda Adolwa
led the prayers appealing to God to guide Kenyans to vote for good leaders who will guide their communities and ensure that public resources are managed for the benefit of everyone. She also prayed against individuals rigging themselves into office as well as against voting based on ethnicity, clan, or other backgrounds.
The Archbishop and the Speaker later joined the procession at All Saints Cathedral for the Palm Sunday Mass.
