SRC Announces Major Cuts to Public Wage Bill

In a bold move to enhance fiscal discipline, the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) has announced significant reductions to the public wage bill through strategic cost-cutting measures. These changes come in the wake of ongoing public concern over excessive allowances that have strained government budgets.

Key among the SRC’s initiatives is the amendment of the Daily Subsistence Allowance (DSA) policy across various ministries and public entities. This revision aims to eliminate unnecessary allowances, ensuring that budgetary allocations are optimized for essential needs only.

In a further step towards accountability, the SRC has scrapped gross car allowances for senior state officials, including cabinet secretaries, principal secretaries, and judges. This decision follows public debates questioning the justification of such allowances amid current economic challenges.

“By removing these allowances, we are not only addressing public concerns but also promoting equity in remuneration practices across the public service,” stated an SRC spokesperson. The commission emphasized that these changes are crucial for controlling resource wastage while safeguarding civil servants’ rights to fair compensation.

The SRC’s measures are part of a broader strategy aimed at rationalizing the allowance system and significantly reducing government expenditure. This initiative is expected to ease budgetary pressures and enhance the efficient use of taxpayer money.

As the government implements these reforms, the SRC hopes to establish a more transparent and equitable compensation framework, ultimately benefiting the economy and fostering greater trust among citizens.
