Statement on Escalation of Ticket Prices For Flights Operating From Mandera
Nominated Senator Mariam Omar has today sought for a Statement in Senate regarding the escalation in ticket prices for flights operating from Mandera County.
Senator Omar wants the Committee on Roads, Transportation and Housing to investigate the ongoing escalation in ticket prices for flights operating from Mandera County and establish the amount of money remitted to the Kenya Airport Authority and the Kenya Revenue Authority in fees and taxes for the financial year 2022/2023.
The Committee should also provide details of the permissible number of daily trips per airline operating from Mandera County, indicating the charges levied by agents per trip, taking into account the rise in airfare amidst the pressing El Nino situation affecting residents of Mandera County; and lastly disclose the criteria used for registering airline agencies in Mandera County by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCCA), including the fees charged for agent registration and the current number of registered agents in Mandera County.
