STELLA JEMUTAI ROTICH, inspiring story on her academic Journey.
She graduated last week from MKU. It is a story you can’t afford to miss.
“I scored C- in my KCSE in the year 2012, I gave up and knew am just a useless being in the family and society.
Being a first born, I regretted a bit and felt I have disappointed my parents.
One morning my parents called me for a talk which after I think they realized I was quite down after the release of KCSE results.
They sent me to Eldoret after they were advised by my aunt that there was a private university called Mt. Kenya University.
He sent me there to go inquire on requirements for one to join and if I qualify.
My parents advised that I take health records but deep down I wanted journalism, only that I was not sure if I can qualify for a course.
Lucky enough I qualified to study certificate in health records.
I waited for a week and the school called me that quorum for health records that particular semester was not enough unless I wait to September.
I asked them which course was available and they told me certificate in journalism and mass communication.
That was good news to me considering its what I wanted from the word go.
I studied certificate in journalism and mass communication and immediately took my diploma course which I graduated in July 2015.
After my diploma, my parents wanted me to proceed with my degree, but when I looked back I decided to go hustle meanwhile so as not to strain my parents who were also schooling my siblings in universities, high school and primary schools. It could be a heavy burden.
I got employed by Sauti ya mwananchi as a reporter based in Eldoret until July 2017 where I was transferred to Baringo.
In February 2018 I joined Alpha Radio as mid-morning show presenter, Liaison officer and also marketing.
It is at this point that I saw it fit to take my degree course with support from my dad and mum.
I joined MKU, virtual because I could comfortably work and study at the same time.
I joined media council of Kenya in 2021.
I graduated from Mt. Kenya University July 2022 in Bachelors degree in Mass media and communication, PR option.
It was not easy balancing work, studies and family more so being the firstborn but it is by the grace of God.
Mt. Kenya is a good school and am looking forward to taking my masters in the same institution soon. It is the best University.”
