In a dramatic turn of events, a firearm stolen from a police officer in Vihiga County in December 2023 has been recovered in Kasarani, Nairobi, following a shootout with detectives. The Jericho pistol, belonging to the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) of Vihiga Police Station, was violently taken during a patrol on December 21st, 2023. A ruthless gang reportedly attacked the officer, leaving him seriously injured, before escaping with the weapon loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition.

The case took a critical turn thanks to an anonymous tip. Acting on intelligence received through the #FichuakwaDCI hotline, a DCI Operations team tracked down a suspicious car occupied by armed men in Mwiki, Kasarani. As detectives approached the vehicle, a tense standoff ensued. One suspect, defying calls to surrender, brandished the stolen firearm, triggering a shootout. Though unfortunate, the exchange of fire resulted in the death of one suspect. The remaining two individuals capitalized on the chaos and fled on foot towards a populated area. Authorities have launched a manhunt to apprehend these remaining members of the gang.

The recovered Nissan Note, with registration KBZ 985T, was impounded along with other evidence found inside the vehicle. The deceased suspect’s body has been transferred to the City Mortuary for identification. This incident underscores the crucial role played by anonymous informants in assisting law enforcement. The #FichuakwaDCI hotline proved instrumental in this case, leading detectives to the stolen firearm and the dangerous gang.

The successful retrieval of the stolen weapon is a significant victory for police and the community. However, the manhunt for the remaining suspects remains a priority. The apprehension of these individuals will ensure a more secure environment for residents and bring the entire gang to justice.
