Swearing In Ceremony Of The Governor-Elect & Deputy Governor Elect
Trans Nzoia County Governor Elect Hon. George Natembeya will on Thursday be sworn in at the Kitale ASK grounds as the next governor after he won the August 9 elections.
The deputy governor Elect Hon. Philomenah Bineah Kapkory will also take the oath of office.
Addressing the press today at the county headquarters, the Assumption of the office of Governor Committee chairperson, Wafula Wakofula said the event is in line with the provisions of the Assumption of the Office of Governor Act 2012.
The Act provides that Governors-elect must be sworn in on the first Thursday after the 10th day of the declaration of the final results by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
“We have put everything into place and the swearing will take place as scheduled. We have already gazetted the day as per the law on how the transition is supposed to be carried out. The ceremony, as announced, has been slated for Thursday, August 25, 2022, at the Kitale show grounds between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. The law states that the swearing-in of the governor-elect shall occur in a public ceremony before a High Court judge,” said Wakofula
The Assumption of the office of Governor Committee is composed of the county commissioner, National Police Service (NPS), chief officers in charge of various county departments, county attorney, judiciary, and county assembly clerk officer, all aimed at ensuring a smooth transition of powers to the governor-elect.
On his part, Trans Nzoia County commissioner Samson Ojwang asked elected leaders in the county to join hands for the betterment of the county.
He said the county will only prosper if all elected leaders will work together in driving the county’s agenda.
