On Tuesday, Principal Secretary for Mining Elijah Mwangi and Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs Hon. Ali Hassan Joho led a high-profile consultative forum with Taita-Taveta County leaders. Governor HE Dr. Andrew Mwadime of Taita-Taveta, alongside key stakeholders, participated in the meeting aimed at enhancing mining investments in the region.

The forum, which follows the CS’s recent visit to the county, was a platform for discussing the region’s mining potential and aligning it with the State Department for Mining’s vision. CS Joho emphasized his commitment to deepening collaboration between the national government and devolved units to spur the growth of mining investments.

Taita-Taveta County, rich in mineral deposits including iron ore, gemstones, and rubies, presents significant opportunities for sustainable mineral exploitation. The alignment of the State Department’s strategies with the county’s development agenda is viewed as crucial for unlocking the region’s mining potential.

Senator Johnes Mwaruma, Women Representative Lydia Haika, and MPs Danson Mwashako (Wundanyi), Abdi Chome (Voi), Peter Shake (Mwatate), and John Bwire (Taveta) also attended the meeting, underscoring the collaborative approach required to advance the mining sector in Taita-Taveta.
