Daniel Kipsanga, a teacher from Kilgoris, Narok County, is expressing heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Florentius Koech of Mediheal Hospital after a decade-long battle with a debilitating spinal cord issue. Kipsanga’s journey began in 2017 when he started experiencing severe pain in his waist, a condition that progressively worsened, making it impossible for him to walk, sleep, or even pass waste. Despite seeking treatment at various hospitals, his condition remained undiagnosed until he was referred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, where he was advised that surgery was necessary.

After being transferred to Mediheal Hospital, Kipsanga was diagnosed with a serious spinal issue and underwent his first surgery under Dr. Koech’s care. The procedure was a success, but after a month, the pain returned, prompting a second surgery. Over the next few years, Kipsanga endured multiple operations to address worsening degeneration in his spine.

Dr. Koech, who first met Kipsanga nearly a decade ago, explained that Kipsanga’s condition was particularly challenging due to an inherited connective tissue disorder that caused the degeneration of his bones and joints. “His spine, though repaired multiple times, continued to degenerate. Each surgery helped, but the next level of the spine would eventually deteriorate,” Dr. Koech said.

In total, Kipsanga has undergone more than five surgeries to address the condition. Despite the ongoing challenges, Dr. Koech remains optimistic, noting that Kipsanga’s spine is in relatively good condition now. However, the teacher is still facing new challenges, including joint pain due to his inherited condition. “The only option left is to rectify the joints,” Dr. Koech added.

Kipsanga, who has spent years in and out of hospitals, shared how he once felt like a child again due to the intensity of the pain. “I couldn’t walk, sleep, or even move without pain. It was a dark time in my life, but Dr. Koech’s care gave me a new hope,” Kipsanga said, thanking the doctor for his dedication to his welfare.

Since his last surgery, Kipsanga has been recovering at home, taking time to heal and regain his strength. “I was told to rest and not to exert myself for two months after the surgery, and I’m thankful for my family’s support during this period. It has been a long road, but I am finally feeling better,” he said.

Though Kipsanga still faces challenges with his joints, he remains hopeful for the future and continues to receive care from Dr. Koech. “Dr. Koech doesn’t just think about the money; he genuinely cares about his patients’ well-being. I pray that God continues to bless him for the work he has done in my life,” he said.

Kipsanga’s story is a testament to perseverance and the importance of compassionate care. His journey with multiple surgeries and ongoing treatment highlights the importance of resilience and the life-changing impact that doctors like Dr. Koech have on their patients.
