The Eldoret National Polytechnic marked a significant milestone today with the celebration of its 18th Graduation Ceremony, showcasing over 3000 graduates who successfully completed their studies. The event, held at the polytechnic’s main campus, was graced by PS TVET, Dr. Esther Muoria, who represented the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Education.

The ceremony was a testament to the polytechnic’s commitment to producing highly skilled graduates ready to meet the demands of Kenya’s dynamic economy. Dr. Charles Koech, the Chief Principal of Eldoret National Polytechnic, addressed the graduates, emphasizing the institution’s role in shaping Kenya’s workforce through quality Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

“Today, we celebrate not only academic achievements but also our reputation as a leader in the TVET sector,” Dr. Koech stated. “Our polytechnic has attracted students from 46 of Kenya’s 47 counties, demonstrating the reach and impact of our programs.”

Dr. Koech also highlighted the polytechnic’s focus on innovation and excellence, particularly the successful implementation of the Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) program, which aligns educational outcomes with industry needs. The program is currently under review by the TVET Curriculum Development, Assessment, and Certification Council (CDACC).

Additionally, the polytechnic has embraced technology to expand access to education, incorporating online learning and the construction of a state-of-the-art library, fully funded by the Government of Kenya. With a student population surpassing 18,000, the institution is focused on leveraging technological advancements to address resource pressures while enhancing the student experience.

“Our continued growth requires us to innovate, and we are committed to ensuring that our programs remain relevant and accessible to all students,” Dr. Koech affirmed.

The polytechnic’s collaboration with international organizations like the International Labour Organization (ILO) has been pivotal in offering Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) programs, enhancing graduates’ employability. These initiatives allow students in Creative Computer Design and Web Development to earn partial or full certifications, further boosting their career prospects.

Beyond academics, the polytechnic also earned praise for its excellence in co-curricular activities. Students have consistently excelled in sports, music, and drama, fostering well-rounded individuals prepared for both professional and personal success.

PS TVET, Dr. Esther Muoria, in her remarks, expressed appreciation for the institution’s achievements and urged the polytechnic’s management to continue working hard to equip Kenyan youth with employable skills. She also urged the graduates to seize opportunities available through government initiatives such as the “Kazi Majuu” recruitment drives.

“I encourage you to take advantage of the opportunities provided under the ‘Kazi Majuu’ initiative, which is actively recruiting skilled individuals across the country,” Dr. Muoria advised the graduates.

In a significant development, Dr. Muoria launched the Eldoret National Polytechnic’s Strategic Plan for 2024-2028, outlining the institution’s future growth and vision. The plan aims to strengthen the polytechnic’s position as a leader in technical education while addressing emerging challenges in the TVET sector.

As the ceremony concluded, the graduates were celebrated for their hard work, perseverance, and the skills they have gained, preparing them for successful careers in a rapidly changing global economy. The Eldoret National Polytechnic continues to shine as a beacon of innovation, committed to excellence in technical education and shaping Kenya’s future workforce.
