The Eldoret National Polytechnic organized a thought-provoking Climate Change Town Hall, bringing together experts from various fields to engage the public in a constructive dialogue on climate action and environmental conservation.

According to the Chief Principal Charles Koech, the event, hosted by Radio Jambo and generously sponsored by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), served as a platform for sharing knowledge, raising awareness, and fostering a sense of collective responsibility in addressing the pressing issue of climate change.

“The town hall featured a distinguished panel of guests, including Jason Lagat, the CECM Water, Environment and Climate for Elgeyo Marakwet County; the Chief Officer Environment and Climate Change for Uasin Gishu County; Mitchell Akinyi, a research scientist from KEFRI; Hilary Buzeki, the CEO of Green Earth Foundation; and Mr. Nathan, the CEO of Forest Clubs Kenya,” said the Chief Principal.

He noted that the panelists provided valuable insights into the multifaceted nature of climate change, highlighting the urgent need for collaborative action and innovative solutions.

“The panel discussion delved into a range of critical topics, with a particular emphasis on the role of youth in shaping a sustainable future. Young people, as the inheritors of our planet, are increasingly at the forefront of climate activism, advocating for bolder and more transformative approaches to environmental protection. Their voices and perspectives are essential in driving positive change and ensuring that the transition to a sustainable world is equitable and inclusive,” the Chief Principal said.

He said the Climate Change Town Hall also underscored the importance of fostering partnerships and collaborations at all levels, from individuals and communities to businesses and governments.

“Addressing climate change requires a concerted effort from all sectors of society, working together to develop and implement effective strategies that minimize greenhouse gas emissions, promote renewable energy sources, and protect biodiversity,” he said.

The Eldoret National Polytechnic Climate Change Town Hall served as a powerful catalyst for raising awareness, inspiring action, and building a collective commitment to addressing the climate crisis.

“The event’s emphasis on youth engagement, collaboration, and innovative solutions provides a roadmap for navigating the challenges ahead and shaping a sustainable future for generations to come,” he said.
