The Eldoret National Polytechnic Chief Principal Charles Koech led the exercise of distributing tree seedlings to its staff ahead of Monday’s tree planting exercise.
According to the principal all is set for the National tree planting exercise scheduled for Monday.
“We have distributed 2,595 trees to our staff, we want everyone to participate in this noble course of mitigating climate change and increasing the forest cover,” said the Eldoret National Polytechnic Chief Principal.
He noted that this is in line with President William Ruto’s directive on the need for all of us to make tree planting part of our culture which has set a target of 15 billion trees by 2032.
Monday, November 13, has been declared a national tree-planting holiday where the government intends to plant 500 million tree seedlings during the nationwide tree-planting exercise.
President William Ruto is set to lead the national tree planting ceremony at the Kiu Wetlands in Makueni County,
Kenya has a forest cover of 7.4%, which is 3.6% short of the constitutionally accepted 10% forest cover.
