The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Elects Executive Committee Members

The Kenyan Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) today held its Annual General Meeting in the National Assembly chamber, where the members elected representatives to the Executive Committee.
The meeting, was co-chaired by Co-President; Senate Speaker Hon Amason Kingi, and the National Assembly Deputy Speaker Hon. Gladys Boss, who represented the Co-president; the National Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon (Dr.) Moses Wetang’ula.

Top on the agenda of the meeting was the appointment of the Clerk of the National Assembly Mr. Samwel Njoroge to replace retired Clerk Mr. Michael Sialai as the Secretary of CPA Kenya Branch, and a signatory to the Branch Financial Accounts

The Members also held elections of the following members to join the four Leaders of Majority and Minority parties in both the National Assembly and the Senate; in the Executive Committee, to make the total number of 12 Members.
The Majority Party from the National Assembly settled on:
1. Hon. Janet Sitienei, MP Turbo Constituency
2. Hon. Adan Keynan, MP Eldas Constituency
3. Hon. Caroline Ng’elechei, MP, Elgeyo Marakwet County
While the Majority Party from the Senate was allowed two slots, which went to:
4. Hon. Senator Hillary Sigei,Bomet County
5. Hon. Senator Esther Okenyuri, Nominated (UDA)
The Minority side in the National Assembly settled on:
6. Hon. Catherine Omanyo, MP, Busia County
7. Hon. Musili Mawathe, MP, Embakasi South Constituency
The Minority side in the Senate elected
8. Hon. Senator Hezena Lemaletiang’, Nominated (ODM)
CPA is an association which brings together Members of Parliament of the Commonwealth with cardinal objective of respect for the rule of law and individual rights and freedoms, the pursuit of the ideals of Parliamentary democracy and good governance
