There Have Been reduced Cases of Pregnancy For Girls Sitting For KCSE- Uasin Gishu Director of Education
There has been reduced cases of pregnancy for students sitting for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education in Uasin Gishu.
Speaking to the press Uasin Gishu Director of Education Muriuki Harisson said this is after they held sensitization programs to parents to take care of their girl child.
“In Uasin Gishu we have reduced cases of pregnancy among girls sitting for their KCSE exams, in the previous year we had over 80 girls who were pregnant but this year we have only 30 girls,” said the Uasin Gishu Director of Education.
19,879 students in Uasin Gishu County are sitting for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education where 9,688 are boys while 10,191 are girls.
“The cases reduced after we mobilized our chiefs to talk to parents on taking care of their girls to prevent pregnancies and that has helped us to reduce the number of pregnacie. We will continue to advise parents to tell their girls that sex should wait until they complete their education,” said the Uasin Gishu Director of Education.
He further said that KCSE exams are going on as planned and no unusual cases has been reported.
“The exams started as planned and everything is going on as planned. No special cases have been reported since the exams kicked off,” added the Uasin Gishu County Director of Education.
He said six students from Uasin Gishu did their exams in the hospital.
“We had 16 students who did their exams from hospitals bed that is six from Uasin Gishu while other ten from Homabay, Kericho, and Turkana Counties,” he said.
The Uasin Gishu Director of Education said there will be a 100 percent transition for students who sat for KCPE in the County.
“KCPE exams were also completed well without any problem and we expect all of them to transit to form one even those who will get one hundred marks there are schools which thye can join,” he said.
“Those who have sat for KCSE and will not qualify to join Universities they should join technical institutions which will impact them with technical skills and knowledge that will help them earn a living through self-employment,” the Uasin Gishu Director of Education Muriuki Harisson said.
