Those Selling Alcohol to Minors Warned- Koiya Arap Maiyo
Uasin Gishu Director of Alcoholic Drinks and Licensing Board Koiya Arap Maiyo has warned businessmen against selling alcohol to young children below the age of 18 years.
Speaking to the press in his office Maiyo said those who will be found will face the full force of the law.
“Schools have now closed for the December holidays and our children will be at home for some time, anyone who will be found selling bhang or liquor to our children will be arrested charged in court and his or her certificate confiscated,” the Director of Alcoholic Drinks and Licensing Board warned.
He called on residents to report any club or restaurants selling alcohol to majors promising to take stern action against them.
He said so far they have received 1500 applications from those who want to do thye legit alcohol business.
“In November we will do an inspection of places where they will put their business, this will ensure that they run their business in a good place, not near schools, universities, and residential houses. We also don’t want such business near churches and mosques,” Maiyo noted.
“I also want to urge bar operators to take care of their customers and I don’t want incidences where their properties are stolen, such will not be tolerated and such bars and restaurants might face closure,” he said.
The director of the Alcoholic Drinks and Licensing Board said his office is working with the County Commissioner, County Commander, and counterfeit agency to ensure those who sell counterfeit goods are arrested and taken to court.
“We won’t allow drugs in the County since they destroy people’s lives. We want Uasin Gishui to be drug-free,” he said.
Concerning noise pollution in some bars and restaurants Maiyo said he would not tolerate then saying it’s either they reform or face closure.
“Our work is to ensure those doing business do it without disturbing residents, clubs that will play loud music stern actions will be taken against them. We have already given notice to some clubs to put soundproof or reduce their loud music or else face closure,” Maiyo warned.
