Those Vandalizing Streetlights in Bungoma Warned
Bungoma residents have been urged to shun off vandalism of streetlights as the contractors working on its repairs take over site.
Speaking at Kapsokwony and Kimilili towns, Energy Chief Officer Denson Barasa warned those found engaging in vandalism of facing imprisonment or a fine not exceeding Kshs. 1,000,000.
“I urge you to be on the look out so that those vandalizing are caught and necessary action taken against them we will imprison all vandals,” said Denson.
Under Section 64(4) of the Energy Act No. 12 of 2006, the offence of vandalism is punishable by a fine not exceeding Kshs. 1,000,000/= or a maximum term of imprisonment of one year. The offence of stealing on the other hand is punishment under Section 275 of the Penal Code.
The contractors for Mt Elgon and Kimilili Sub Counties have today taken over sites to kick off the repairs immediately, one of Governor Kenneth Lusaka’s pledge to the people.
