Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary, Rebecca Miano EGH, has warmly welcomed the inaugural AirAsia direct flight from Kuala Lumpur to Nairobi, highlighting it as a significant milestone in Kenya’s tourism and aviation sectors.

Speaking at a reception for the 377 passengers and crew aboard the historic flight, Miano expressed her delight in the new connection between Kenya and Southeast Asia, emphasizing the positive impact it will have on both tourism and trade.

“This is a momentous occasion for Kenya, marking the beginning of a new chapter in our tourism and aviation experience. The introduction of this direct flight opens up exciting opportunities to promote Kenya as a premier travel destination for tourists from Malaysia, and indeed the broader Southeast Asian region. It also strengthens the connectivity between our countries, fostering greater business and cultural exchanges,” Miano said.

The direct flight service, operated by AirAsia, is expected to boost Kenya’s growing tourism sector, with new avenues for adventure seekers to explore Kenya’s renowned wildlife, natural beauty, and rich cultural heritage. It will also support the country’s economic growth by facilitating easier access for trade, investment, and diplomatic ties between Kenya and Malaysia.

Miano reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that Kenya remains an attractive destination for international travelers, pointing to ongoing efforts to enhance the country’s infrastructure, wildlife conservation, and tourism offerings.

“We are thrilled to receive AirAsia’s inaugural flight and look forward to welcoming many more visitors to our shores. This flight is not just a direct air link; it is a bridge connecting cultures and economies, and a testament to Kenya’s growing importance as a global hub for tourism and business,” she added.

AirAsia’s entry into the Nairobi route is expected to further diversify Kenya’s tourism market, attracting tourists from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and beyond.
