Trans Nzoia County Begins Athlete Selection for 2024 KICOSCA Games
The selection of athletes for the upcoming 2024 KICOSCA Games, set to take place in Kakamega County from November 23 to 30, is underway, with trials held across various venues for sports including football, volleyball, netball, darts, and traditional dance.
Mrs. Gladys Agalla, the Sports Director, emphasized the department’s commitment to forming a competitive team. “We are dedicated to assembling a strong team that will represent Trans Nzoia with pride,” she stated. The selection process incorporates the expertise of former sports officials to identify top talent. “Their experience is invaluable in ensuring we recognize athletes who excel not only in skill but also in teamwork and discipline,” Agalla added.
To promote fairness, the department has engaged these former officials to oversee the selection, which Agalla describes as “an impartial process focused purely on merit.” This approach aims to eliminate biases and ensure that the best athletes are chosen to compete.
Selected athletes must meet specific criteria before their participation is finalized. According to Agalla, “Players must be either on permanent and pensionable terms or hold a three-year contract with the county.” Additionally, they are required to submit essential documents, including their staff identification and the last three months of payslips to verify their employment status.
Verification of eligibility will be conducted at the Huduma Center, ensuring transparency before the teams proceed to the games. “This step is crucial to maintaining the integrity of our selection process,” Agalla noted.
The KICOSCA Games will feature over 20 sports disciplines and cultural dances from 47 counties.
