Trans Nzoia County to Increase Revenue Projection
Trans Nzoia County administration announced plans to revise its revenue projection upwards to Ksh 1 billion, Governor George Natembeya said Monday.
The governor emphasized the county’s potential to collect more revenue but highlighted corruption among collectors as a significant threat to these efforts.
“We have the potential to collect more revenue, but corruption is a major obstacle,” Natembeya stated after a meeting with the county revenue officer. “My administration is committed to streamlining revenue collection to ensure that more funds are available to improve the living standards of our residents.”
Governor Natembeya issued a stern warning to county employees against engaging in corrupt practices, promising strict action against those found guilty. “Those indulging in corrupt dealings will be prosecuted,” he warned.
The governor expressed concern over the reduction of funding from the National Government, urging the county to enhance its revenue collection efforts to maintain service delivery.
“The treasury has indicated a reduction in county allocations following the collapse of the finance bill. We must adjust and improve our revenue collections,” he said.
Natembeya also announced the introduction of reward and sanction measures to motivate revenue officers.
“We will reward those who perform above expectations and hold accountable those who fail in their duties,” he added.
The governor’s remarks come amid ongoing efforts to address budgetary constraints and ensure the county’s financial stability.
“With the reduction in national funding, we must pull up our socks to ensure services continue as planned,” Natembeya concluded.
