Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya today signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) to enhance the county’s participation in the meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) sector. The event took place at the county headquarters.

The partnership aims to stimulate economic growth in Trans Nzoia by attracting more conferences and social events to the county, leveraging KICC’s expertise and resources. Governor Natembeya emphasized the potential benefits, stating, “Trans Nzoia is ripe for investments, especially in conferencing. This partnership with KICC will open more opportunities for our county.”

Trans Nzoia, known as Kenya’s breadbasket, stands to gain significantly from the MICE industry.

The sector can drive economic growth by attracting business tourism and infrastructure development. The county can also showcase its tourism attractions to a wider audience, promoting both domestic and international tourism.

“We have strong agricultural exhibitions and conferences that bring together experts, investors, and industry players,” Natembeya added.

The governor highlighted the county’s vast opportunities, noting its two water towers and parks like Mt. Elgon National Park.

He also mentioned the ongoing renovation and expansion of the Kitale National Museum, aimed at enhancing revenue collection and improving the facility’s condition to attract more visitors. “This collaboration will link us with other national and international organizations,” he said.

James Mwaura, CEO of KICC, expressed optimism about the partnership. “Counties will now be hosting MICE events by bidding, which will open up opportunities, especially in economic growth, further boosting the county’s status,” Mwaura said.
