Trans Nzoia’s Industrial Park to Eliminate Middlemen- DG Kapkory
The County government of Trans Nzoia is planning to establish an industrial park to consolidate all farming activities and enhance profitability.
Deputy Governor Philomenah Kapkory said on Friday that the park’s main objective is to provide a direct market for all agricultural produce.
This move, according to the deputy governor, aims to eliminate intermediaries who have historically taken advantage of farmers.
Kapkory spoke during a one-day field day held at the residence of Kitale Catholic Bishop Henry Odonya.
The event was organized collaboratively by his Diocese, the County government, and Kenya Seed.
Also in attendance were Bishop Odonya, vicar General and his Deputy Micah Kemboi, Beatrice Ayabei, Kenya Seed’s Head of Sales and Marketing, Julia Kichwen, PSM CECM,Agriculture chief officer Omari Ndiema and Mary Nzomo, who is Kiminini Sub County Agriculture Head, among other officials.
Kapkory highlighted the County government’s “Mbegu” initiative, which involves distributing free seeds to farmers. This initiative aligns with the national government’s subsidized fertilizer program, collectively aiming to boost food productivity.
Bishop Odonya emphasized the importance of integrating technology and modern farming methods to enhance food productivity across the country.
He stated, “Technology plays a vital role in increasing agricultural yields. The church is committed to collaborating with other stakeholders to promote and enhance this noble activity, ultimately improving livelihoods.”
Ndiema outlined that his agriculture department is currently executing various projects.
These projects are designed to significantly increase food production, facilitate crop diversification, and establish aggregation centers for improved marketing opportunities.
