TSC Commissioners Pay A Courtesy Call to Governor Alex Tolgos
Teachers Service Commissioners (TSC), led by their chairman Jamleck Muturi, today paid a courtesy call to the Governor. The stakeholder engagement meeting was aimed at improving the standards and quality of education in the County by strengthening teacher performance system.
TSC is an independent commission established under the Kenya constitution to manage human resource within the education sector.
During the consultations it was noticed that Elgeyo Marakwet County has for a long time trailled behind due to Natural and Human calamities within the region affecting the general education performance of the area.
The Commission is on the run to work with different arms of the Government to engage on the challenges and solutions to optimize the potential value of the teacher in regards to improving the quality of the education.
The chairman Mr. Muturi stated that being an election season, politicians tend to interfere with trends and patterns of the educational activities that has influenced political decisions as a way of responding to certain pressure and crises to ward off public concern.
“There as better ways of channelling the complaints to the commission without necessarily bashing teachers on the social media platform. “ he said.
Citing more challenges in the Area, the Governor addressed the insecurity menace along the Kerio valley that has made students move from one learning institution to another in search of a conducive environment for learning to take place.
He also noted that despite of the insecurity challenges, the community has tried to give prime importance and priority to education-related matters.
“The community is fully aware that proper schooling helps in building a better community as a whole.” He said.
He applauded the team on the delocalisation policy that was introduced by the TSC to make teachers work outside their home counties. Though, he requested that some areas should be treated with speciality especially those along the Valley and the Neighboring Baringo County because of its unique dynamics that has with time contributed to the insecurity issues.
As a county, more initiatives such as rehabilitation of the women brewers have been implemented as a way of curbing alcohol dependency amongst teachers.
In attendance was the County Secretary Paul Chemuttut, Rift Valley TSC Regional Director Adow Mohamed, County Director of Education Masibo Kituyi, among other staff.
