Twende Digital Project Launched to Enhance Digital Job For Kenyans
The Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) in partnership with Challenge Fund for Youth Employment (CFYE) and Twiva officially launched the Twende Digital project to create thousands jobs for Kenyans.
The main objective was to oversee the creation of work opportunities for young digital content creators while supporting Small Medium Enterprises( SMEs) in adopting of technology through intensive capacity building and technical assistance on the use of digital skills and platform.
Twende Digital Project is an avenue for job creation particularly for women. The project will enhance employment opportunities for over 3,000 youths, through digitally enabled job opportunities and ensuring a safe working environment by 2025. This project will create jobs for youth by building the capacity of 400 Small Medium Enterprises ( SMEs )to expand their markets through adoption of appropriate business digital technoly. In the complex business world, digital adoption is no longer an option but a game-changer for Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs). In addition this project will target women by showcasing how online jobs provide balance between productive and reproductive work.
Dr. Ehud Gachugu Director of youth and jobs at Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) said that enterprises stood to have a great chanse of unlocking the wealth of opportunities and building a global competitive advantage through adoption and priotizing digitization. He also statated that the adoption of digitization cannot be ignored as the benefits of digitization become clearler for businesses where they stand to benefit from access to wider markets. “Besides providing solutions for the growth of these businesses, digitization has brought about new and more exiting work opportunities for the young people in Kenya” Dr. Ehud said.
Twiva CEO Peter Kironji said that Twiva has harnessed penetration of smart phones , internet connectivity, mobile banking and social media to give Micro Small Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Kenya affordable, efficient and digital access to markets and consumers.” The future of work is evolving, and the gig economy , remote work,and digital enterepreneurship are becoming increasingly prevailing . Twiva, a social commerce startups aligns with this trends providing a flexible and access avenue for young people to engage in meaningful work opportunities without traditional constraits” Said Kironji.
The absence of sufficient employment opportunities has been a huge hurdle in Kenya especially where recent reports have shown that over 2.97 million Kenyans are jobless. Out of the numbers, 50% are between the ages of 18 years to 29 years.
Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) calls on development partners and other stake holders from different sectors of the economy to support business with opportunities for training, networking ,financial linkages mentorship and coaching, access to market, access to investment opportunities inbound and outbound globally.
