Two Fatalities Reported Over Elnino Rains in Uasin Gishu

Two fatalities have been reported in Eldoret town in the last three days over heavy downpours, that have rocked most parts of the region.

Uasin Gishu firefighting brigade retrieved the body of a one-and-a-half-year-old baby from a flooded latrine at Ng’enyilel village in Kimumu Ward, Moiben Sub County.

Another case is of a middle-aged man who died after the sand he was harvesting on a steep slope collapsed on him at Kapchumba B in Kiplombe ward.

While confirming the incidents Uasin Gishu Roads, Transport and Public Works Chief Officer Engineer Abraham Kiptalam urged residents to be cautious, not to leave children alone, and to avoid slopes even as the county begins a new plan on measures of creating awareness and engaging youths on a program of opening blocked drainages to avert flooding.

Chief Officer Abraham Kiptalam urged residents to use the mobile numbers provided by the county government to contact them for quick intervention in any case of emergency.

Ng’enyilel village elder Lilian Magut said the child fell while playing outside their house alone and that the entire area is swampy and dangerous during heavy rain seasons.

The two bodies were taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.
