Uasin Gishu and FAO Working On Digital Land Governance Programme

Uasin Gishu County is looking into going into major strides in development in partnership with the Food Agriculture Organisation a programme that aims at attaining modern date digital land Governance.

County Executive Committee Member for the Department Mr. Anthony Sitienei while officially opening a four day workshop that brings together all the cluster 3 counties cited that the programme was timely and would be an agent of all credible reports, documentation, mapping and planning of Land in the County.

Mr. Sitienei noted that digitization of land issues would improve livelihoods and create sustainable development through equitable and secure access and management of land.

“It is also set to support the development and review of valuation roles, facilitate the development of model laws on natural resource management, support the maintenance of the forests and wet lands,” said Mr. Sitienei

Chair Committee Member for Lands and Physical planning Hon Amos Kiptanui- Racecourse with his counter part Hon. Moses Kebenei- Kipkenyo ward, noted that land remains a capital resource and factor of production in Uasin Gishu County hence the programme is set to benefit the residents greatly.

The team from cluster 3 comprising of Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Elgeyo Marakwet, Baringo, Trans-Nzoia,Turkana and West Pokot CECMS of Lands and Physical planning together with County assembly members were also taken through the importance of property rates as an important source of revenue for counties to raise own revenue.
