The Uasin Gishu Civil Society Organization Network has condemned three atrocities commuted by armed bandits along the Kerio Valley.

Led by their chairperson Benedine Kipruto said the killing in Elgeyo Marakwet of innocent lives is uncalled for and ill intended.

“We note with increased concern the upsurge in the number of armed bandit attacks countywide over the past three months that has left many people dead and scored injured, we condemned it with the strongest terms possible,” Kipruto while speaking to the press.

The recent attacks comes barely two months after armed bandits attacked a convoy of school buses on 18th February 2022 that left a driver dead and 13 students injured, which is still pending under investigation.

“It would be seen that current measures put in place by the government to protect the residents of Elgeyo Marakwet living along the valley are not a sufficient safeguard in stopping the heinous and cruel attacks and this has resulted in a state of panic and tension within the region,” she added.

They called upon the National security systems, as well as other key stakeholders to take swift actions that will ensure that citizens lives are protected and the senseless indiscriminate attacks are brought to an end.

“We urge the government to reestablish its authority and monopoly on the instruments of violence that will go a long way in ensuring peace and safety is restored in the region. The lives of our children and citizens living along the Kerio Valley matter,” Kipruto said.

“The government should fulfill its constitutional duty f providing, protection to all citizens of this republic.
