Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Declares War on Illicit Brew
Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Dr.Edison Nyale has put on notice those involved in the sale and manufacture of illicit brew.
Speaking during Mashujaa day celebrations at Central primary, Nyale said he will work round the clock to ensure that the intake and sale of illegal liquor is a thing of the past.
“I want to give a stern warning to those involved in the sale and intake of illegal liquor that their days are numbered and soon they will be brought to book,” Dr. Nyale said.
“It is me and you who will make sure that this county is well steered forward and this is by ensuring that we have good security in the county when we coordinate with security agencies to eradicate alcoholism”, Dr. Nyale added.
He noted that they have agreed with Governor Jonathan Bii to put some measures to curb the illicit brew business.
“I and the governor have met and had a discussion and agreed that we put strict measures to deal with those who are practicing the illegal business. I urge them to change before we take action or they will face the full force of the law”, the Uasin Gishu County Commissioner said.
He said the areas affected by the Illicit brew include Munyaka, Langas, Huruma, and Kamukunji among others.
He called on residents to act as their watchdog by reporting those selling illegal liquor and promised to take stern action against them.
So far we have done operations at Huruma, Spain, and Langas Kingongo, the operation will continue until cases of illegal illicit alcohol are a thing of the past. I am also calling on residents to help us with information about those involved in the sale of illegal alcohol and we Promise to take illegal actions against them,” the County commissioner added.
Former Uasin Gishu county Governor Jackson Mandago had declared war on those who were selling and consuming illegal liquor.
The statistics from NACADA in 2021 showed that out of 42 million Kenyans,13.6% consume alcohol,5.8% abuse alcohol and 5.5% are dependent on alcohol. Sadly those dependents are youthful.
