Uasin Gishu County Hosts Groundbreaking Revenue Roundtable to Advance Financial Autonomy and Service Delivery
The County Government of Uasin Gishu, led by Governor H.E. Dr. Jonathan Bii, has set a new benchmark in sustainable governance with its innovative approach to enhancing revenue collection. The recently held Own Source Revenue Roundtable Enhancement Meeting, hosted at a hotel in Eldoret, brought together county leaders, stakeholders, and development partners to discuss strategies for achieving financial autonomy and improving service delivery.
Deputy Governor H.E. Evans Kapkea highlighted the county’s commitment to excellence in revenue collection and transparency. “This roundtable is a testament to our commitment to building a self-reliant county. By optimizing our revenue streams, we are ensuring that Uasin Gishu remains a model for effective and sustainable governance,” Kapkea said.
A key focus of the meeting was the county’s use of technology to streamline its revenue collection processes. The Sisibo Pay system, implemented to boost efficiency and accountability, has played a crucial role in improving revenue collection across the county.
County Executive Member for Finance and Economic Planning, Micah Rogony, expressed confidence that Uasin Gishu would surpass its Ksh 2.8 billion revenue target. “We are diversifying income sources, digitizing processes, and leveraging innovative solutions to strengthen our financial position,” Rogony stated.
Chief Officer for Finance, Mr. Eliud Chemaget, presented impressive revenue growth statistics, attributing the success to proactive strategies and enhanced collaboration among departments. “Our consistent progress reflects the strength of our systems and the shared vision of our leadership,” Chemaget noted.
Mr. Koiya Maiyo, the Chairperson of the Revenue Strategy Committee, showcased several key initiatives aimed at simplifying compliance and increasing public trust. “From mobile payment systems to extensive public awareness campaigns, we are making it easier for residents to contribute to the county’s growth while fostering voluntary participation,” Maiyo explained.
The forum also underscored the importance of partnerships in achieving these ambitious goals. Representatives from the World Bank and the Commission on Revenue Allocation praised Uasin Gishu’s innovative leadership and lauded the county for setting the pace for sustainable development in Kenya.
Governor Bii’s vision for financial independence continues to inspire transformative initiatives across the county. By linking enhanced revenue collection to improved service delivery, Uasin Gishu is not only achieving its targets but also setting new standards in governance and development.
With its focus on financial autonomy and excellence in service delivery, Uasin Gishu County is rapidly becoming a model for other devolved units in Kenya. Its strategies are seen as a blueprint for achieving both economic independence and efficient service provision, ensuring the county’s continued growth and development.
