Uasin Gishu County is gearing up for a historic milestone as Eldoret prepares to be officially declared Kenya’s fifth city. On July 17, 2024, the Uasin Gishu County Chambers hosted a pivotal stakeholder forum bringing together key players from various sectors to strategize for the upcoming transition.

The forum was attended by representatives from the County Government of Uasin Gishu, the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), the Kenya Association of Manufacturers, and leaders from the private sector, including members of the Shangwe Jua Kali Association and the Jua Kali Federation.

The central agenda of the meeting was to outline and coordinate the events and activities surrounding Eldoret’s conferment as a city. One of the main outcomes of the forum was the designation of the Micro and Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA) and the Uasin Gishu County Government as the lead agencies for organizing a major MSME Exhibition and Conference. Scheduled for August 1-2, 2024, the event aims to showcase the diverse range of products manufactured in Uasin Gishu County.

MSEA has already mobilized over 100 micro and small enterprises (MSEs) to participate in the exhibition, representing a broad spectrum of sectors. The exhibition will highlight local innovations and products, providing a platform for businesses to connect with potential partners and customers.

The conferment of city status to Eldoret is expected to bolster competitive opportunities and foster economic growth. As the fifth city in Kenya, Eldoret will serve as a strategic hub connecting over 10 counties within the North Rift Economic Bloc (NOREB) and beyond.

This development is anticipated to stimulate business activities, attract investment, and enhance the overall economic landscape of the region.

The upcoming MSME Exhibition and Conference is poised to be a landmark event, celebrating Eldoret’s new status and showcasing the potential of Uasin Gishu County’s vibrant business community.

For more information about the event or to participate, interested parties can contact the MSEA office or visit the official Uasin Gishu County Government website.
