Uasin Gishu County’s Commitment to Agricultural Value Addition and Strategic Partnerships

Uasin Gishu County Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim engaged with the British Deputy High Commissioner, Ed Barnett, to explore new opportunities for strengthening the county’s agricultural value chain and fostering innovation through strategic partnerships in sports.

During their discussions, Governor Chelilim emphasized Uasin Gishu’s commitment to supporting local farmers through sustainable initiatives that ensure value addition and improved market access.

The governor highlighted ongoing projects such as the establishment of an avocado packhouse, aimed at enhancing processing, and expanding access to lucrative markets.

Additionally, the discussion also delved on the completion of the Moisoy project and the setup of a cold storage facility for potatoes are set to provide farmers with a ready market and reduce post-harvest losses.

“Agriculture is the backbone of Uasin Gishu County’s economy, and through these transformative projects, we are ensuring that our farmers can add value to their produce and access new markets,” said Governor Chelilim.

He added, “We invite investors to join us in driving this economic transformation and to take advantage of the vast opportunities for growth and partnership in our county.”

The governor also emphasized that sports innovation is an integral part of the county’s strategy for economic development.

Uasin Gishu County is leveraging its global reputation for producing world-class athletes to promote sports as a tool for driving innovation and growth, further supported by the county’s strong ties with the United Kingdom.

Deputy High Commissioner Ed Barnett lauded the ongoing relations between the United Kingdom and Uasin Gishu, highlighting the importance of continued collaboration in agricultural value addition and sports innovation.

“The United Kingdom is proud to support Uasin Gishu in its efforts to create sustainable opportunities for its farmers, entrepreneurs, and athletes,” said Barnett.

“This partnership reflects our commitment to driving economic transformation and innovation in the region.” he added.
