Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Engages Finance and Economic Planning Team on Strategic Economic Growth
Uasin Gishu County Deputy Governor, H.E. Evans Kapkea, led a pivotal meeting with the Department of Finance and Economic Planning on Thursday to discuss crucial financial and economic issues aimed at fostering sustainable growth in the region. The meeting, held at the county headquarters, underscored the commitment of Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii’s administration to ensuring effective financial management and boosting the county’s economic prospects.
During the meeting, Deputy Governor Kapkea emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the handling of county finances. “Our mandate is to ensure every shilling is accounted for and directed towards impactful projects that improve the lives of our people,” he affirmed. He also highlighted the administration’s dedication to working collaboratively across departments to achieve the county’s development goals and urged the finance team to adopt innovative solutions to address emerging challenges.
The Deputy Governor further stressed that the county’s residents deserve the efficient and impactful use of public funds, particularly in light of the ongoing financial constraints faced by many local governments.
CECM for Finance and Economic Planning, Micah Rogony, provided an overview of key financial matters during the meeting. He discussed the county’s budget implementation strategies, improvements in revenue collection, and mechanisms in place to curb unnecessary expenditures. Rogony outlined ongoing efforts to streamline financial processes and introduce cost-saving measures, aimed at ensuring that funds are utilized in the most efficient manner possible.
Chief Officer of Economic Planning, Nathan Korir, also shared details about new systems being introduced within the county to enhance service delivery and ensure strict compliance with fiscal policies. The Finance department is also reviewing the county’s economic blueprint, with a focus on aligning development priorities with available resources.
The meeting also focused on critical areas such as funding for key infrastructure projects, strategies to attract investors, and improving revenue collection efficiency. The Finance department’s five directorates—Finance, Supply Chain, Assets, Audit, and Revenue—were all represented at the meeting, reflecting the comprehensive nature of the discussions.
