Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno has hit at the National government through the Ministry of Sports for giving athletes who participated in Tokyo Olympics cold reception.
Chemno said the move was uncalled for and lack of respect to Kenya’s heroes.
“It’s sad thta despite the likes of Eliud kipchoge performing well in the just completed Tokyo Olympics no one was there even a Nyumba Kumi chairman to receive them at the airport, this is uncalled for and a big shame to the Ministry of sports,” said the deputy governor while speaking to the press.
Chemno said the athletes deserved a better reception putting the blame on the Ministry of sports for the poor reception.
Kenya was position 19 globally.
“How can a team which was Ned number one in the country jet in like Nicodemus when he went to see Jesus at night.Such things are the ones making us to perform poorly and soon our athletes will change their citizenship since they are not appreciated at home,” Chemno added.
He called on the Ministry of sports officials to apologise to the athletes for the poor reception.
Kipchoge Stadium in Uasin Gishu County was to host the Under 20 championship but the venue was moved to Nairobi since its still under construction.
“We want the Kipchoge stadium to be completed with immediate effect if we want our country to continue posting good results,” he said.
