In response to the recent floods wreaking havoc on schools across Uasin-Gishu County, Deputy Governor Eng. John Barorot has taken swift action by ordering the assessment of affected educational institutions.

Under the coordination of newly formed Sub-County disaster management committees, this initiative aims to provide a comprehensive report on the current state of these schools, informing a strategic action plan to mitigate the damages.

The urgency of the situation was underscored by County Executive for Education Antony Sitienei, who highlighted a litany of concerns plaguing these institutions.

Reports have cited issues such as pit latrines submerged in water, sinking toilets, roofs damaged by the deluge, as well as cracks marring classroom walls and doors. Moreover, flooded classrooms and playgrounds further exacerbate the challenges faced by both students and educators.

Expressing his determination to address these pressing issues, Deputy Governor Barorot emphasized the need for immediate assessment and action.

“I would like the teams to do an assessment of the affected schools immediately,” he asserted, “and report in our meeting tomorrow for us to come up with an action plan to address the situation.”

The directive reflects a concerted effort by local authorities to prioritize the well-being and safety of students and faculty amidst the aftermath of natural disasters. By mobilizing resources and expertise through the Sub-County disaster management committees, the administration aims to swiftly devise targeted interventions to restore normalcy to the affected schools.

As Uasin-Gishu County grapples with the aftermath of the floods, the proactive stance taken by Deputy Governor Barorot signals a commitment to effective governance and community resilience in the face of adversity. With the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders, including government agencies, educational institutions, and the broader community, it is hoped that swift and effective solutions will be implemented to address the challenges confronting the affected schools.
