Uasin Gishu County First Lady Lucy Mandago launched the distribution of over 10,000 pieces of sanitary towels targeting adolescent girls across all the wards in the county.
Speaking at the County headquarter, Mrs. Mandago said the donation targets vulnerable girls and women in the grassroots who are often forced to trade sexual favors for sanitary kits to avoid unattended horrid embarrassment of menstrual flows.
“I appeal to our community health volunteers to pay close attention to our mothers and sister who cannot afford the sanitary kits especially in this hard-hit economic time”, Mrs. Mandago said.
Each girl will receive donations that will last them for four months.
Governor Mandago, also present warned men against taking advantage of vulnerable girls and women at their moments of dire need.
Health Services County Executive Evelyne Rotich said that her department will reach the targeted women through their network of community health workers down to the grassroots.
Her Trade Counterpart Dr. Emily Kogos urged girls to value themselves and to avoid trading their future for short term pleasures.
Chief Officer Dr. Victoria Tarus, (Livestock & Fisheries) who was also present encouraged women to pursue government procurement opportunities set aside for women.
