Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Highlights Education Investments at Hill School Annual General Meeting
In a spirited Annual General Meeting held at Hill School Primary in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii reaffirmed his administration’s strong commitment to prioritizing education.
The event, attended by various key stakeholders including area MCA Hon. Amos Kiptanui and several prominent education officials, showcased the significant strides made by the county in enhancing educational infrastructure and resources.
Governor Bii began his address by outlining the various initiatives his administration has undertaken to elevate the standards of education in Uasin Gishu County.
A major highlight was the construction of 46 model classrooms distributed across all 30 wards. This ambitious project aims to tackle classroom overcrowding and provide students with a conducive learning environment. The new classrooms are expected to not only enhance the quality of education but also support the growing student population in the region.
In addition to infrastructure improvements, Governor Bii emphasized the success of the school milk feeding program, a key initiative that has seen remarkable outcomes.
The program, which provides nutritious milk to students, has led to a notable 7.5 percent increase in student enrollment rates. This success underscores the program’s impact on encouraging school attendance and improving students’ overall health and concentration.
Addressing another significant aspect of education, Governor Bii spoke about efforts to improve the teacher-learner ratio in the county’s 673 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centers. By ensuring a better balance between the number of teachers and students, the administration aims to enhance the quality of early childhood education and provide more personalized attention to young learners.
Moreover, the governor introduced a new initiative aimed at promoting oral hygiene among students. The program provides toothbrushes and toothpaste to children, highlighting a broader focus on preventive health care alongside academic development. This initiative is expected to foster better hygiene practices among students and contribute to their overall well-being.
Principal Hesbon Ngaira of Hill School praised Governor Bii for his unwavering support, particularly emphasizing the positive impact of the school milk feeding program. Ngaira noted that the program has not only improved student retention rates but also contributed to a healthier and more focused student body.
The meeting also featured remarks from Uasin Gishu Director of Education John Thiringi, who affirmed the government’s dedication to ensuring that every child, regardless of their financial background, has access to quality education. Thiringi highlighted Uasin Gishu’s recent achievement in the regional ball games for primary and junior secondary schools, where the county emerged as the top performer. This accomplishment, he noted, reflects the positive impact of the administration’s investments in education.
Regional Director of Education Milton Musyoka, representing Education PS Belio Kipsang, also addressed the gathering. Musyoka commended the school for its stellar performance and called on parents to support the institution by paying school fees on time. He emphasized that timely fee payments are crucial for the development of the school and for achieving better academic results.
Musyoka also reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that all schools receive timely capitation from the Ministry of Education. This support is vital for maintaining educational standards and ensuring that quality education is accessible to all students. He stressed that education serves as a key equalizer, bridging the gap between the rich and the poor, and thus deserves robust and consistent support.
The Annual General Meeting at Hill School highlighted the administration’s ongoing dedication to improving educational outcomes and supporting the well-being of students throughout Uasin Gishu County.
With substantial investments in infrastructure, health programs, and teacher-student ratios, Governor Bii’s administration aims to create an environment where every child can thrive academically and personally.
