ELGEYO MARAKWET GOVERNOR TOLGOS MEETS FINLAND AMBASSADOR TO KENYA

Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Alex Tolgos visited Finland Embassy in Nairobi where he had discussions with the Ambassador H.E Mr Pirkka Tapiola.

Tolgos’ government is in the process of sending 66 more students to Finland this year, having sent the first cohort of 25 in the year 2020.

Out of this, 16 will be going to Helsinki to undertake a Three and half years Degree Course in Nursing.

25 Students have been listed to undertake Practical Nursing Course (Diploma) taking Two academic years at Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAKK).

Another 25 Students will be heading to Tredu University in the same country to undertake Practical Nursing Course in Nursing.

Tredu University is approximately 45 Kilometre from Tampere City.

In the discussions at Eden Square, Westlands Nairobi today , H.E. Ambassador Tapiola praised the partnership saying it was a generous contribution towards the prosperity of the student beneficiaries together with their families.

“Am impressed that you have the potential of going forward with this initiative,” said Tapiola.

He added:” I find it so encouraging that you thought it wise to have your people explore opportunities in Finland,”

Governor Tolgos recalled that he initiated the Students’ airlifting program since 2013, with the intention of assisting jobless youth in Elgeyo Marakwet county to explore job opportunities internationally.

The two dignitaries exchanged gifts which included Honey from Elgeyo Marakwet among other gifts.

With the Electioneering period in Kenya,
the Envoy said as a partner of Kenya, Finland is keen and wishes that the Kenyan elections were conducted in smooth process.

“We don’t care who becomes President but what we want as your partners is free and fair process,” said the Envoy who promised to tour Elgeyo Marakwet county before Tolgos exit office.

Governor Tolgos was flanked by Health Chief Officer Mary Kipchumba, Chief of Staff Kipng’etich Barmaasai, Legal Advisor Janet Jeruto and Iten Municipality Manager Raymond Omonei.
