In the wake of several days of intense anti-government protests in Uasin Gishu County, Governor Jonathan Bii, alongside local elders and community leaders, has called upon the youth demonstrators to prioritize dialogue over continued unrest.

The protests, predominantly led by Generation Z activists, initially sought to address pressing issues affecting the community. However, concerns arose over the infiltration of violent elements, allegedly responsible for vandalizing businesses and causing substantial financial losses estimated at 500 million.

Speaking from the county offices for gender, social protection, and culture, Governor Jonathan Bii emphasized the importance of peaceful resolution. “We understand the genuine grievances of the protesters, but the escalation into vandalism is regrettable,” he stated during a press briefing. He further acknowledged that while the youth have legitimate concerns, resorting to destruction undermines their cause and disrupts local businesses.

Local leaders and elders in Eldoret played a crucial role in urging the protesters to withdraw from the streets and engage in constructive dialogue with the government. “We implore the youth to embrace peace and allow dialogue to take precedence,” urged Governor Bii, highlighting the need for a collaborative approach to addressing community grievances.

The protests, which initially gained momentum, gradually subsided following appeals from community leaders. Governor Bii and representatives from religious, commerce, and business sectors expressed readiness to engage with the protesters to address their concerns in a peaceful and productive manner.
