Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has called truck drivers to stop visiting their families to prevent them from being infected by coronavirus.
He said truck drivers are at a high chance of contracting the virus since they travel in different countries.
“We are not saying that you are infected but because you travel to Mombasa and outside the country you are prone to contracting the disease so we kindly request you to stay back; because in doing so you will be protecting your families and also yourself from the risk of contracting the disease from the local population”, said the County boss.
He spoke to the press when he received donations from business owners through Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Eldoret Chapter on Wednesday.
“Let us protect ourselves from contracting the virus by following the directives by the ministry of health to prevent further spread of the virus. This disease is not a joke and if we are not carefull more deaths will be registered,” added the Uasin Gishu County boss.
The County boss also said that his administration is working with the southern by-pass contractor to establish an expansive temporary holding park that can accomodate a large number of the trucks as they awaited clearance to ease conjestion at the Kenya- Uganda border.
