Uasin Gishu Residents Engage in Public Participation for Affordable Housing Regulation

Residents of Uasin Gishu County actively participated in a well-attended Public Participation session held at the County’s Town Hall on Wednesday to contribute their views on Affordable Housing regulation. The event marked a significant step towards involving the community in shaping policies aimed at providing decent and affordable housing for Kenyan citizens.

County Commissioner Dr. Eddyson Nyale officially opened the exercise, highlighting President’s commitment to positioning Kenya as a leading global economy. Dr. Nyale emphasized the President’s vision of ensuring that citizens have access to decent and affordable homes. He underscored the goal of constructing a minimum of 200,000 housing units annually, signaling a transformative approach towards achieving a bottom-up lifestyle change.

Dr. Janeth Kosgei, the County Executive Committee Member for Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, and Urban Development, reiterated the Governor’s emphasis on the importance of the Affordable Housing program for future generations. Dr. Kosgei affirmed the department’s readiness to undertake the tasks assigned under the program, reflecting the county’s preparedness to address housing challenges effectively.

The Public Participation session saw participation from various stakeholders representing different sectors of the community. Representatives from each sub-county, the business community, Chamber of Commerce, religious leaders, civil society groups, Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), transporters, academia, and technical groups actively contributed their views.

The diverse representation at the event underscored the comprehensive approach taken by the county government to gather input from various sectors. The engagement of stakeholders from different backgrounds ensures that the Affordable Housing regulation reflects the needs and aspirations of the entire community.
