Uasin Gishu Residents Engage in Public Participation for FLLoCA Program
Residents of Uasin Gishu County actively participated in public forums today to identify projects for the 2024/2025 Financing Locally Led Climate Action Program (FLLoCA), aimed at allocating Ksh 173 million for local initiatives.
In Ainabkoi Sub-County, Dr. Sam Kottut, the County Executive Committee Member for Environment, led the discussions, underscoring the importance of community involvement in the planning and execution of FLLoCA projects. “Public participation is a key pillar in our governance and project development processes. We want to ensure that stakeholders’ views are captured and considered in our initiatives,” he stated.
The engagement continued in Moiben Sub-County, where administrator Moses Kangogo facilitated discussions that prioritized projects such as the solar equipping of the Kapsoni water project, the distribution system for the Endao water project, and the construction of the Tilil masonry tank.
In Kesses Sub-County, residents expressed a keen interest in enhancing agricultural practices. Community members highlighted the need for irrigation infrastructure and soil conservation initiatives to combat climate change and boost crop yields. Local leaders, agricultural experts, and environment officers emphasized the importance of training programs to promote eco-friendly farming practices and efficient resource management.
Public participation sessions in Soy, Turbo, and Kapseret Sub-Counties also focused on climate action projects, with residents stressing the need for improved water access and investment in renewable energy sources to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. In Kapseret, community members specifically called for tree planting programs and the restoration of local ecosystems to enhance biodiversity and combat soil erosion.
The widespread engagement throughout Uasin Gishu County reflects a strong commitment from residents to collaborate on initiatives addressing climate change and enhancing their quality of life. Local leaders are dedicated to integrating the community’s feedback into the FLLoCA program as they move forward with project planning and implementation.
