In a groundbreaking move to enhance trade and investment opportunities, Uasin Gishu County, under the leadership of Governor Jonathan Bii, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the India-Kenya Business Council. This partnership aims to create new pathways for cooperation and foster economic growth for both Uasin Gishu and its international partners.

The signing ceremony, held this morning, marks a significant milestone in Uasin Gishu’s vision of becoming a regional economic hub. Governor Jonathan Bii emphasized the strategic importance of this collaboration, highlighting how it will pave the way for increased investment, trade, and exchange between India, Kenya, and Uasin Gishu County.

“We are committed to positioning Uasin Gishu as a county of economic champions,” said Governor Bii. “This MoU is an important step in leveraging our collective strengths to create opportunities that will support sustainable growth and development. With this agreement, we are opening doors for major investments that will not only benefit our county but also contribute to the larger East African economic landscape.”

The MoU will focus on areas such as infrastructure development, manufacturing, agriculture, technology, and trade. By fostering a deeper economic partnership with India — one of the fastest-growing economies in the world — Uasin Gishu aims to attract foreign direct investment and establish long-term trade ties that will elevate the county’s global economic standing.

In attendance at the event were the Indian High Commissioner to Kenya, H.E. Namgya Khampa, along with key members of the India Business Council, officials from the Kenya Chamber of Commerce, the Association of Manufacturers, and other prominent business leaders. The presence of such influential figures underscores the importance of the agreement and the confidence in Uasin Gishu’s potential as a rising economic powerhouse.

Governor Bii further expressed his optimism about the future, noting that this partnership will create opportunities for local businesses to expand, introduce new technologies, and access international markets. He called on stakeholders from all sectors to seize the momentum created by this agreement and work together towards achieving shared economic goals.

“We are determined to create an environment where businesses thrive, where innovation flourishes, and where investment opportunities abound,” added Governor Bii.

The signing of the MoU is seen as the beginning of a series of collaborations aimed at elevating Uasin Gishu’s role as a key player in Kenya’s economic transformation. The county government is poised to actively support initiatives that will foster business growth, create jobs, and drive development for the people of Uasin Gishu and beyond.
