The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party has called an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to address recent violent incidents at its headquarters, The Hustler’s Plaza. The meeting is set for Friday, August 2, 2024.

The decision follows turmoil earlier this week, starting with a controversial declaration by party member Joe Khalende. On Tuesday, Khalende announced he was assuming the role of Party Secretary General, succeeding Sen. Cleophas Malalah. This claim led to a chaotic confrontation at the party offices.

According to UDA Chairperson Her Excellency Cecily Mbarire, Khalende was attacked on Wednesday by political agitators who stormed the headquarters, resulting in injuries. Mbarire condemned the acts of violence and labeled them as violations of the party’s constitution and principles.

“The UDA Party has established processes for such matters, and no individual can unilaterally claim a position without following proper procedures,” Mbarire stated. “We denounce Tuesday’s incident in the strongest terms.”

She further criticized the use of violence to settle internal disputes, emphasizing that the party upholds the rule of law and has established mechanisms for conflict resolution. The NEC will meet on Friday to deliberate on these issues and announce appropriate actions.

The UDA Party remains committed to addressing these concerns with due diligence and ensuring that party operations are conducted within the framework of its governing principles.
