University of Eldoret Launches New Courses to Address Job Market Needs
The University of Eldoret’s School of Arts and Human Development is set to unveil a series of new courses designed to meet the evolving demands of the job market and promote self-employment among students. This initiative comes in response to significant societal changes and the need for innovative educational programs.
According to Professor Jacob Onyango, the Dean of the School of Arts and Human Development, the university is actively reviewing and validating new courses, including Bachelor of Arts with Education, Disaster Management, Development Studies, Media and Communication, Literature and Film, and Sociology, among others.
“Our focus is to develop programs that equip students with practical skills and critical thinking abilities necessary for today’s professional landscape,” stated Prof. Onyango. He emphasized the integration of new technologies and relevant skills to prepare learners for diverse career opportunities.
The university is engaging various stakeholders to enhance the curriculum, ensuring the new offerings are distinct from existing programs at other institutions. Additionally, a new studio has been constructed to support students pursuing degrees in media, communication, and film.
Professor Paul Tarus, the university’s Registrar, highlighted the importance of providing learners with alternative pathways to access job opportunities across different fields. “The success of these new courses will not only elevate the School of Arts and Human Development but also contribute to the university’s resource generation and reputation as a preferred choice for students nationally and beyond,” he added.
Following a comprehensive needs assessment, the university is poised to launch these programs in January and February of next year, marking a significant step toward adapting higher education to meet contemporary and future job market demands.
