The Chief of Party USAID-Dumisha Afya project, Dr Everlyne Ashiono has affirmed that they will work closely with the County Government of Busia in increasing access and demand to quality HIV prevention services.

Speaking at the Busia County Referral Hospital (BCRH) during an entry meeting attended by the County Health Management Team (CHMT), Ms Ashiono said they will support the County’s goals and services to ensure quality HIV care and treatment.

“We are mandated to support HIV programming in Busia County. As part of our strategy to achieve this, we have pledged to continue with the gains made from the USAID funding in the previous projects all the way from 2004 when they started supporting HIV in the country.”

She noted that they will strengthen the partnership that has already been created with the County Government where their first important stakeholder is the County.

“We are going support the County to move towards achieving epidemic control,” said Ms Ashiono, adding that they will also work with the faith-based and local stakeholders towards the same mandate.

She added that: “We are going to strengthen integration and linkages both within the facilities and the community considering that HIV affects all the Departments. We will also ensure that we offer target service delivery across the HIV cascade to ensure the client is put at the centre stage.”

Directors, Dr Melsah Lutomia (Preventive and Promotive Services) and her Universal Health Coverage counterpart Dr David Mukabi welcomed the project, stressing that they are committed to collaboration for the interest of locals.

“We are committed to working with you as you carry out your interventions which are supporting the Department of Health and Sanitation,” said Dr Lutomia.

The project which is covering Busia and Bungoma Counties for a period of five years, has two consortia partners among them PATH Kenya wholich will be supporting in terms of the key populations and health systems strengthening with a focus on lab and commodities.
