The State Department of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) recently convened a crucial validation workshop to finalize its Strategic Plan for 2023-2027. Led by Principal Secretary Susan Auma Mang’eni, the workshop brought together key stakeholders, including heads of departments, state agencies, and industry representatives, to align efforts towards advancing the MSME sector in Kenya.

This initiative is integral to the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) and aligns with Kenya Vision 2030, emphasizing the vital role of MSMEs in driving inclusive and sustainable economic growth. The sector is particularly important for absorbing low-skilled and marginalized groups in the workforce, including youth, women, persons with disabilities, and those with limited educational backgrounds.

The strategic plan aims to navigate the complexities of the current economic landscape, fostering innovation and performance while providing a framework for long-term success. It outlines critical goals and objectives that will guide decision-making and resource allocation, ensuring that both human and financial resources are effectively aligned with the department’s priorities.

Principal Secretary Mang’eni highlighted the significance of the MSME sector in promoting social change and economic inclusion. “This strategic plan is not just a document; it is a roadmap for the future of our MSMEs, empowering them to thrive in a dynamic environment,” she stated. “By prioritizing our resources based on strategic objectives, we are committed to ensuring that every stakeholder benefits from our collective efforts.”

The workshop also emphasized the importance of adaptability in the face of evolving market conditions, providing a foundation for efficient resource allocation and maximizing impact. Stakeholders engaged in fruitful discussions, sharing insights and feedback that will refine the strategic direction of the department.

Special thanks were extended to the International Labour Organization (ILO) for their partnership in this vital endeavor, underscoring the collaborative effort necessary to support the MSME sector’s growth.

As the State Department of MSMEs moves forward, the validation workshop marks a significant step in its mission to cultivate a vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable economy that benefits all Kenyans.
