Victorine Okumu Beats Ken in Swimming Category
Boat racing, traditional wrestling, swimming, tug of war and bicycle cycling are some of the activities that highlighted today’s Samia Cultural event at Bumbe beach.
The event was graced by Busia Governor, Dr. Paul Nyongesa Otuoma, the area Member of Parliament, Hon. Oundoh Mudenyo, Budalangi MP, Hon. Raphael Wanjala, PS Susan Mang’eni, Busia Woman Representative, Hon.Catherine Omanyo and Professor Julia Ojiambo amongst other guests.
The Governor promised to continue promoting cultural events and said he will seek to merge Abanyala and Samia Cultural events together.
“I want to congratulate the participants and Victorine Okumu, a girl who performed well among men in the category of swimming. Let others emulate her, we shall promote culture at all costs, this is just but the beginning,” he insisted.
Hon. Susan Mang’eni, the PS for State Department for Micro Small and Medium Enterprise (MSMEs) praised the residents for the magnificent performance and promised to always support the residents by giving funds to various groups especially after being trained on how to handle the loans received in the groups.
The winners in boat racing men’s category were Songa Mbele and Maendeleo under women’s category.
Victorine Okumu emerged the winner in swimming category for both men and women.
Others who attended the cultural festival include County Executive Committee Members, Elected and Nominated MCAs and Sub-county administrator among others.
