Social Risk Assessment is one of the most important factors to be considered while establishing a project.
This involves prioritizing people to enable the project achieve its intended purpose.

According to Vihiga Governor Hon. Dr. Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo, most projects in Kenya lack ownership because implementers do not consider people more important than the project and therefore the negative impacts outweighs the positive ones.

This, he said today morning while officially opening a week long induction workshop for Vihiga County Social Risk Management (SRM) Committee at the Royal Gardens Hotel in Kisumu.

‘My special appreciation to organizers of this workshop especially World Bank that will equip our officers with knowledge on the importance of adherence to environmental issues and social safety,’ Said Dr. Ottichilo.

He further promised to translate the committee into a Directorate with an allocated budget for sustainability purposes, urging them to develop an Annual Work Plan that will specify what they’ll be doing on daily basis.

Dr. Mercy Nyamongo, a Social Development Specialist at World Bank stated that apart from Vihiga being the first County to establish the committee, it also becomes the first to be trained.

The SRM committee comprises of representatives from various County departments implementing projects such as Trade, Agriculture, Health, Environment among others.
